Scholarly Life

I am a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, School of Information Sciences. I  serve as a graduate research assistant funded by the National Science Foundation DataONE (Data Observation Network for Earth) program.  I maintain an open research notebook at <https://notebooks.dataone.org/data-science/>.

Building on professional experience in biodiversity and environmental informatics as a government contractor, my work with DataONE is primarily focused on exploring the nature of scientific collaborations needed for complex interdisciplinary scientific investigations, commonly thought of as “Big Science.” Towards understanding scientific collaborations and information flow in those collaborations, I assist with research designed to understand sociocultural issues among collaborative research communities.

Complementing my work on the DataONE Sociocultural Working Group, I am also connected the development of DataONE member nodes where I specialize in spatial data and infrastructure.

Research roles connected to the DataONE Usability Working Group include assisting with studies in the UTK-CCI/ORNL User Experience Lab, a cutting edge facility equipped to facilitate explorations of perceptions and usability of Web technology. I am based at the Center for Information and Communication Studies at the University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences in Knoxville, Tennessee.
